Alphonso Harmon

Alphonso “Phonie” Harmon, 89, of Bridgton, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020, at the Bridgton Hospital.

He was born March 31, 1930, in South Bridgton, the son of Clifford Sr. and Orilla (Douglass) Harmon.

He attended local schools until he started working with his father and in their carpentry business. His work was interrupted when he was drafted into the U.S. Marines in 1951.

He married Lorraine Smith Oct. 28, 1954, and returned to the family business as a master carpenter and mason. During his retirement he continued with light carpentry for the Quisisana Lake Resort in Lovell.

He was a member of the Oriental Masonic Lodge #13 in Bridgton and the Bridgton Snowmobile Club. He loved snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, and golfing; he was an avid NASCAR and local racing fan. He and Lorraine were known for their mutual love of animals.

He is survived by his daughter Wanda Thompson and husband Frederick; a grandson Jason Thompson and wife Jennifer; a granddaughter Kelly Breceda and husband Jerry; a foster grandson Keegan; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by his wife; two children as infants, Sheryl and Dana; four brothers Clifford Jr., Frank, Clinton, and Charles Harmon; and a sister, Grace Cates.

A Celebration of Life for Alphonso and Lorraine will be announced at a later date.
