Harrison town manager: Take a walk, but don’t forget to clean up after your pet

HARRISON — While it is good for one’s physical and mental state to take a leisurely walk, if you bring your dog, don’t forget to bring along disposal bags.
Harrison Town Manager Tim Pellerin noted in his weekly update that people walking their dogs are failing to clean up after their pets along Main Street and Crystal Lake Park. Under the town’s Dog Ordinance, individuals can be fined up to $250 for failing to clean up after their pet.
“Please be respectful and clean up after your pets. We do not want to have install cameras and/or have to close the park to dogs so please pick up after your pets. Thank you,” Pellerin said.
In other town notes:
• Town buildings will remain closed to the public until May 1. Business can be done, however, online through the town’s website (www.harrisonmaine.org).
• The transfer station is open with regular hours at this time, but Pellerin reminds users to observe social distancing and do not enter the buildings. “This is for the safety and protection of our employees and the public,” Pellerin said.
The town is no longer accepting cash at the Transfer Station — check or credit cards only.
• The Selectboard will hold a “virtual meeting” on Thursday, April 9, at 6 p.m.
“Please know that we are continuing to work on the budget and keeping expense down,” Pellerin noted. “We realize this is even more important now due to these uncertain times.”

Car registrations — if it is a new vehicle purchased from a dealer, keep your temporary plates. You have 30 days from the time the state of emergency has been lifted to get it registered. If it is a private sale please email the clerk here.
Boat registrations can be done online. If you have a new boat please email me. 2019 sticker expiration has been extended until the end of April 2020 if you can’t do it online.
Property Tax payments can be placed in the drop box located in the front of the Town Office or paid online.
If you must speak with someone you may call the office and leave a message, someone will return your call within 48 hours.
• Nomination papers are still available, please e-mail the clerk at mstjohn@harrisonmaine.org to get your nomination papers. Open positions include two selectmen, one Planning Board, one Appeals Board. Nomination papers are due back to the Clerk’s Office by 4 p.m. on April 10.
Also, be aware the annual town meeting will be by secret ballot. This means you can order an absentee ballot instead of coming to the polling place. This may become very helpful in the months ahead with more and more people being required to stay at home and not congregate.
