Bridgton Selectboard notes

Notes from the Bridgton Selectboard’s May 26 meeting:

Motel property sold. With a bid of $41,600, Mark Lopez purchased the former First & Last Resort Motel property on Route 302.

The property was tax-acquired, and part of the purchase agreement is that the former motel be demolished. Auctioneer Christopher Grant handled the onsite auction on Friday, May 15. There were two bidders.

Store and donation bin reopens. The Transfer Station “Store” and bottle donation bin opened on Tuesday, June 2. Protocol has been put in place to protect the wellbeing of citizens and staff entering the store and leaving bottles in the donation bin.

New hires. Liam Opie is a full-time employee of the Parks and Cemeteries Division of the Bridgton Public Services Department;

Justin Adamsas a full-time Water Reclamation foreman;

Nikki Hamlinas a full-time executive assistant;

Summer intern Emily Grzybstarted June 1 with a primary focus of digitizing selected town records.

Water testing. On Wednesday, May 20, the town began weekly testing of the public beaches — Highland Lake, Woods Pond, Salmon Point Campground, Salmon Point and Plummers Landing. That week’s results were “well below the acceptable limits.”

On the BFD front. The Fire Department noted the passing of Donald Spiller, who was a former department captain in South Bridgton.

Chief Tom Harriman attended the Cumberland/Oxford area Chiefs’ Meeting.

The department received notification of pending donation from the Lions Club for personal protective equipment to include masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, safety glasses and a thermometer.

The department continues to gain new membersinterested in the department. A new recent applicant has extensive fire service experience and if approved will be another great asset to the department.

Upgrading broadband. Community Development Director Linda LaCroix has initiated a broadband effortthat includes officials from state, county and town governments, as well as citizens and businesses. The group met twice and will roll out a framework in the coming weeks and months.

Summer Recreation begins Monday, June 8 at 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for nine weeks. Swim lessonsbegin on June 22.
