Randy Millett

NAPLES — Randy Millett passed away on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020 after a very courageous battle with esophageal cancer that had spread.
Randy’s strong determination allowed him to enjoy many of his life’s passions of boating on Sebago Lake, which he referred to as his “Playground” for two months after his diagnosis. He also enjoyed wonderful times at “Third Beach,” where he met and built a community of friends. He was the creator of the “Golden Gilligan Award.” This award was given to the most deserving person (by vote) for their error of water or boat mistakes leading to safety or damage to their boat. This year, Randy was a first-time recipient for backing his van into Sebago Lake as he launched his boat this spring. He also enjoyed spending time in his garage, which he took great pride in. Randy took great pleasure and pride in his classic vehicles, a 1956 Ford Truck named “Norma Jean” and his 1970 Mustang named “White Lightning.”
Randy loved and cherished his many memories of his life in Colorado. He met and built a family of friends there, some of which became an extended family here in Maine. Doug, Misty, Jessica, Aaron and children came to Maine frequently and enjoyed Randy’s life in Maine.
At the age of 26, Randy had a life changing accident. He worked in construction and fell three stories from a building and became a quadriplegic. He made the decision to carry on and “Not be miserable because I am in a wheelchair.” This was the kind of determination and spirit that he had for life. In April of 1999, Randy came home to Maine to live.
Randy spent 21 years living his dream to be home with his family and friends. Randy faced many health hurtles but fought through them determined to enjoy his life back in Maine. During his life in Maine, Randy met and made many friends. He had a great personality and a way of making you feel like you had known him forever. His love of Maine even gave him the opportunity to still hunt and fish, enjoy his many lifelong friends from as far back as kindergarten through high school and beyond.
Randy is survived by his brother, Russell Millett and wife Nancy; his sister, Rosemarie Dyer and husband Scott Dyer; his sister, Gloria Dodge and daughter Pam Kimball; his niece, Mandie Lasselle-Riseman, husband Max and son Rex; his niece, Nickie Lasselle and daughter Aaryana; his niece, Stacie Lasselle and son Charlie; his nephew, Jason Millett, wife Amberly and children Tiviley and Autumn; his niece, Julie White, husband Eli and children Evan, Colby and Tyler; his nephew, Griffin Millett and wife Kate; his step-nephew, Matt Dyer; his step-niece, Holly Oertel, husband Jon and sons Colin and Payton.
