Bernice S. Radau, 91

Bernice Sophie Radau, 91, passed away on Monday, April 26, 2021.

Bernice was born on January 23, 1930, in the Bronx, N.Y., to Anna Podlewski Friedrichsen and George Friedrichsen. She is survived by her loving husband, Gunther Radau, her daughters Heide Lock (Gene) and Wendy Ruocco; five grandchildren Evan Lock (Kristen), Diana Lock Pham (Brian), Laura Ruocco, Bobby Ruocco and Jenna Ruocco; two great-grandchildren Addison and Brennan Lock.

Bernice was a loving wife to Gunther for just under 70 years. She worked beside him for over 25 years at their deli and catering business in the Bronx, the Silver Beach Deli. Over the years, they made their home in the Bronx, N.Y., New Port Richey, Fla., Naples, Maine, and New Bern, N.C.

Bernice and Gunther first met in 1939 in Germany. They were friends, sweethearts and finally spouses, and they were together for all but about five years from the time they met. She was a member of the Wieland Lodge 714 Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Bernice enjoyed antiquing, going to auctions, knitting, golfing, stained glass work, painting, and most of all being home with her family. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Bernice will be forever missed by her family and friends.

The family thanks Crystal Coast Hospice House for their warmth and professionalism and Cotten Funeral Home for handling the arrangements. A memorial service and burial will be held at a later date.
