Alvah F. Johnson Sr., 86

Alvah F. Johnson Sr., 86, of Bridgton passed away Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019 peacefully at home, surrounded by family.
Alvah was born in Bridgton to Franklin A. Johnson and Marie (Webber) Johnson. Alvah grew up in Bridgton. He served in the Army reserves in the 1950s. He married Gertrude E. Gilpatric on June 11, 1955. Together, they raised six children. He had a 30-plus year career working summers for Pike Industries as foreman of an asphalt plant, and winters for Pleasant Mountain/Shawnee Peak ski area. He owned and operated Triple J small engine repair until declining health forced him to close.
Alvah was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude, of just shy of 60 years on May 5, 2015; a son, Bradley K. on Oct. 26, 2016; his parents; and a sister, Verna Burnham.
He is survived by sons Alvah F. Jr. of Carrabassett Valley, Kevin W. of Pace, Fla. and Daniel K. of Bridgton; daughters, Lorilyn Hodgkin of Bridgton and Tamylea Guptill of Fryeburg; 14 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Per his request, there will be no funeral. A private celebration of life will take place at the convenience of the family.
He would never say “Good bye,” but always said, “See you in a week or 10 days.”
