Arthur J. Croteau Jr., 99

BIDDEFORD — Arthur J. Croteau Jr., 99, passed away comfortably at Southridge Nursing Facility in Biddeford, Maine, on Friday, Feb. 8, 2019.

At a young age Arthur was always a supervisor at heart. He was a serious worker. Get it done and do it right!

During WWII he was foreman at the shipyard in Bath. This is where he met his lifelong mate of 75 years, Anita Lucille Bellefleur. As the war was closing they married, till death do us part.

When the war ended, he was offered a job with a steel company in Bridgeport, Conn., so they made the move. From there on he graduated to Edgecomb Steel as foreman in Milford, Conn., where they bought a home and had three children.

Arthur was a devout stamp collector for over 70 years. It was his passion and he found it very educational. He was also a whiz at crossword puzzles and loved to work in the yard.

Following retirement, they moved back to where their roots were in Maine. Arthur was from Lewiston and Anita from Norridgewock.

Arthur then devoted himself to his loving wife, Anita, in their home in Fryeburg. She passed away November 19, 2018. He was very content just to have her by his side and home. He had plenty of time to play with his stamps and do his crossword puzzles. They made so many lifetime friends, and so many wonderful people touched their lives.

Arthur is survived by his loving daughter, Adrienne Lee Elizabeth Croteau Morris, of Prospect, Conn.; his grandson, Robert Arthur Morris and wife, Shawn Phelps Morris, and their daughter Makenna Elizabeth Morris of Waterbury, Conn; his son, Allan Andrew Croteau, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; his widowed daughter-in-law, Bette Steward of Westerly, R.I., who was always so kind and loving to them. He was predeceased by his wife, Anita, and son, Arthur Joseph Croteau III, who also passed in 2018; his father, Arthur Joseph Croteau Sr.; and mother, Eva Jutras Croteau of Lewiston, Maine; his stepmother, Jean Terrier Croteau; and brothers, Richard, Raymond and Maurice Croteau, all of Maine.

They will be buried at 1 p.m., Sunday, May 19, on Arthur's 100th birthday, at the Sebastian Roman Catholic Cemetery in Madison, Maine. Those who wish to celebrate their lives and be part of the ceremony are welcome.

At this time Anita will also be put to rest as she has been patiently waiting for him as usual. They will rest with her loving family.

Arrangements are under the care of Wood Funeral Home, 9 Warren St., Fryeburg. Online condolences may be shared with his family at www.woodfuneralhome.org. Donations in Arthur's memory may be sent to 24 Woodcrest Drive, Prospect, Conn., in care of Adrienne Lee Morris, who represents the family estate.
