Bridgton Farmers’ Market moves to new indoor location; Lovell starts new food pantry

While farmers might be putting their fields to sleep, they are busy sorting and washing storage produce for long winter nights… and for the fifth season of the Bridgton Winter Farmers’ Market!

Many favorite vendors will be in attendance with fresh baked goods, small-batch roasted coffees, veggies, grass-fed meats and dairy along with jams and jellies — plus some new vendors, too!

By implementing safety measures and following state guidelines, BFM will be offering several ways for folks to safely shop at market. Many vendors will be offering online pre-ordering so customers can quickly pick up their order. The in-person winter market will operate socially distanced and vendors and customers alike will be requiredto wear face coverings. The number of customers allowed in the building to shop is limited to 5persons, so we greatly appreciate limiting the number of persons you have shopping for your family.

The new location at The All Roads Hub (the old Macdonald Motor Building) at 4 Nulty Street in Bridgton will make spacing out easy, and we look forward to this new big clean space to share our produce and products with you!

The Winter market begins on this Saturday, Nov. 14 and runs every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.mn. through the end of April, when BFM moves back outdoors. BFM gladly accepts cash, check and credit/debit. Through the winter, BFM also will continue to accept SNAP/EBT and match 100% of all SNAP purchases with Harvest Bucks to use toward fresh fruits and veggies at market.

Grab your face covering and your shopping bag (yep, you can bring your own!) and come visit your local farmers for fresh wholesome foods. Please visit the Facebook page for ways to place a pre-order with participating vendors, or send BFM an e-mail with your questions.

New Food Pantry to open in December

LOVELL — A new food pantry is set to open in Lovell on Thursday, Dec. 10. Thereafter, it will be open the second and fourth Thursdays of each month from 10 a.m. to noon.

The Lovell Area Food Pantry is under the guidance of Michelle Molloy of Lovell.  A committee has been set up to establish the pantry, which will be located in North Lovell at the Lions’ Club building (the former Kezar Lake Grange Hall) at 2081 Main Street.

“Our sincere thanks go to the Lions’ Club for their support of this project,” organizers said.

There have been several successful food drives to benefit the pantry. The Lovell Masons’ organization has been instrumental in providing a drop off spot on Saturday mornings during hunting season, offering a discount on their breakfast selections if a person is donating food for the pantry. The Lovell Fire Department was very generous, allowing a Halloween food drive-through at their Center Lovell station. Monetary donations continue to arrive, ensuring that the necessities can be provided for families in need.

Information regarding the food pantry, including forms to enroll can be found at the website: LovellAreaFoodPantry.org

Families of Lovell and the surrounding towns are eligible to participate. At this time, a food drop-off point is being set up and further information will be published. Organizers appreciate the enthusiasm and support the town and surrounding communities have shown. If you wish to support this endeavor, the mailing address is: Lovell Area Food Pantry, 1898 Main Street, Lovell, ME 04051.
