CASCO — This week marks the fourth month since Casco Town Manager Courtney O’Donnell resigned after about a year on the job.

This week marks the third time the town manager position will be advertised.

Late last year, the Casco Board of Selectmen decided to advertise the job for the third time. Also, the board agreed to wait until after the holidays had passed before posting this latest advertisement.

“We haven’t re-advertised. We waited a little bit to get through the holidays,” Casco’s Interim Town Manager Don Gerrish said.

The job vacancy will be advertised on the same online job search sites as before, Gerrish said. Those include Maine Municipal Association (MMA), the International City Managers Association (ICMA) and the Maine Job Bank. The job bank does not cost anything for employers to post job vacancies, Gerrish said. The town’s website is another place that the job will be posted.

The board had discussed advertising with other municipal associations throughout New England, such as ones in Massachusetts or New Hampshire, but decided against it because the international association would be used by job seekers from the New England states, Gerrish said.

“We’ve talked about it with the board. Anyone looking for a manager’s job, they would look at ICMA,” he said. “That’s the whole United States so anyone looking for or considering a job, there are listings throughout the country. All they have to do is put in Maine for their job search.”

Cost was another drawback to advertising with other municipal associations in New England. The Town of Casco is a member of MMA, and already pays annual fee for that membership.

The town manager job will be advertised for three to four weeks.

“If we can get 20 applications, that would be good,” Gerrish said.
