Edna K. Charbonneau, 83

Edna Katherine Charbonneau, 83, of Bridgton died peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, March 7, 2019.

She was born one of nine children in Freetown, Mass. on June 13, 1935, the daughter of Alfred Westgate and Wanda Westgate (Praisner), and educated in Massachusetts schools. In 1951, Edna married the love of her life, Normand Charbonneau of New Bedford. They were together for 56 years until his passing in February 2007. They spent some time in Florida, and then moved to Maine in 1987. Edna worked for Documation and K-Mart in Florida, and in food service for SAD 61.

Edna was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who loved to be surrounded by family. She enjoyed gardening and camping with Norm, sewing and crafting, and going to exercise classes with “the girls.” She was an amazing self-taught artist, who also designed hook and braided rugs that she made for every member of the family. Her crafts are family prized possessions. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by three sons, Arthur Charbonneau of Madison, N.H., Barry Charbonneau of North Dartmouth, Mass. and Eric Charbonneau of Otisfield; two daughters, Carol Mayberry of Sebago and Joan Gwozdz of Naples; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a sister, Sandra Ferreira of Belleview, Fla.; three brothers, Alfred (Joey) Westgate of North Dartmouth, Mass., Dennis Westgate of East Taunton, Mass. and Raymond Westgate of Belleview, Fla.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Winifred Pierce and Mildred Rego, both of Acushnet, Mass. and two brothers, Milton Westgate and Arthur Westgate, both of Freetown, Mass.

A celebration of life will be held at the graveside service at North Bridgton Cemetery in the spring. A date and time will be announced. At Edna’s request, there will be no wake. Arrangements are by Chandler Funeral Home, 8 Elm Street, Bridgton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edna’s name to Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice, 15 Strawberry Ave., Lewiston, ME 04240.
