Elizabeth Fagan

NORTH CONWAY, N.H. — Elizabeth Marie (Pretzer) Fagan, 92, of No. Conway, N.H. (formerly of Bridgton, Maine), passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019, with her family by her side.

Elizabeth was born in Fitchburg, Mass., on Dec. 21, 1926. She played basketball and volleyball throughout her school years and graduated from Fitchburg High School with high honors. Along with her three sisters, Elizabeth worked for DuPont and played basketball for the factory team. She married Raymond Fagan in Oct. of 1950. Together they owned and operated Fury’s Restaurant in Lunenburg, Mass.

In 1969 they relocated to West Bridgton, Maine, where they opened the Leisurely Inn. Shortly after moving to Bridgton, Elizabeth began working for Bridgton Hospital, serving as a switchboard operator and receptionist in the emergency room for thirty years.

Elizabeth was an avid Duke basketball and New England Patriots fan. When she wasn’t watching sports, she enjoyed going to the beach, reading, and exploring craft fairs. She loved animals, especially her dogs. Above all, she cherished the time she spent with her family.  She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and seeing them always brought her joy.

In addition to her parents Paul and Charlotte (Kopp) Pretzer, Elizabeth was predeceased by her siblings Brunhilde Gendron, Alice Baer and Ruth Bergman, all of Mass.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Fagan of Albany; Patricia Hamilton of Pittsfield; her grandchildren, Hilary Hamilton of Somersworth, and Derek Hamilton and his wife Melissa of Epsom; her great-grandsons Brennan and Grayson; and family friend and caregiver Jane Roberts.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Elizabeth’s memory may be made to Harvest Hills Animal Shelter, 1389 Bridgton Road, Fryeburg, ME 04037, or at harvesthills.org
