Fryeburg Academy confirms first positive Covid-19 case
FRYEBURG — Fryeburg Academy has confirmed today, Friday, that a student on campus has tested positive for COVID-19.
According to a press release, the affected individual has been isolated. Immediate family members and all identified close contacts are being called and directed to quarantine, monitor for COVID-19 symptoms, and work with their healthcare provider to get tested as directed by the Maine CDC and the Maine Department of Education.
As per the school’s planned response measures, the Academy’s campus will close and classes will be held remotely for a minimum of one day on Monday, October 25, as administrators work with the Maine CDC to conduct a thorough evaluation of the potential exposure and assist with contact tracing. The Academy’s school nurse, Sarah Sartory, and its administration are in ongoing communication and cooperation with the school’s appointed Maine CDC epidemiologist and will follow their guidance.
In its campus operations, Fryeburg Academy will continue to follow the policies and procedures outlined by the Department of Education and the Maine CDC. Social distancing protocols, masking, and disinfecting measures continue to be in place. Additionally, deep cleaning will occur during the campus closure. The Academy will send more information as it is available but notes that it cannot release the infected individual’s name or hometown and thanks the public for its understanding.
