Lola Shackley

Lola LaVerne (Wiggin) Shackley, (Nan, Nanna) passed away on Dec. 6, 2020, at Country Village Assisted Living.

She was born on Oct. 21, 1947, to Clyde V. andBarbara (Merrifield) Wiggin in South Windham.

On May 21,1966, she married Lawrence (Larry) in Fairfield, Maine.

She was a daycare provider for 30-plus years in Bridgton, running Nanna’s Place Daycare. She truly loved each and every one of her daycare “kids” as well as their families. She was very well known for her “Nan hugs,” her delicious molasses cookies at Christmastime, and especially for her genuine love for everyone.

She loved spending time with her family, especially for the holidays. She also loved spending time with her two best friends, Jacqueline (Jackie) Huntress and Lucerne (LuLu) Lewis.

She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, especially when it came to making hats, mittens and afghans.

She is survived by five children, Lisa (Ken) Lane of Bridgton, Lawrence (Larry) Jr. (Julie) of Bridgton, Lori (Ken) of Lewiston, Luke (Desneiges) of Herman, and Lynne of Naples; grandchildren, Jessica Lane (Jacob) Webb, Krystal Lane (Tyler) Murphy, Kayla Dittmeyer, Kassandra (Scott) Shackley, Gage and Skylar Shackley, Bryan, Breyanna and Brenna Barboza, Jessica, Christopher, Dennis and Daniel Shackley, and their families; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Kendall, Noah,Gunnar, Aliyah and Emery; nephew Chris (Nancy) of Hollis who lived with his aunt and uncle for many years and felt they were his second parents; and their children Barbara, Faith and Hannah whom she felt were her grandchildren; brother Clyde “Chip” Wiggin; sisters. Sharon Shelley and Kanya Wiggin; ex-son-in-law Dean Barboza and ex-daughter-in-law LaNell Shackley whom she always felt were her “children.” As well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence E. Shackley Sr., who passed on Oct. 2020; her parents; two sisters, Penelope “Penny” Buzzuto and Annette Ponte; and a granddaughter, Krista Dittmeyer.

Services will be determined by the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Barbara Bush Hospital.
