NAPLES — After almost eight years with the Town of Naples, Administrative Assistant and Assistant Code Enforcement Officer (CEO) Kate Matthews will be taking her skill set to another town.

Matthews last day as an employee with the Town of Naples will be April 2 Because she has accepted the code enforcement position with the Town of New Gloucester.

Matthews’ resignation was announced during the Naples Board of Selectmen meeting.

“Kate Matthews started with us in August of 2013 as the town secretary,” according to Naples Town Manager John Hawley. “Over time, her position morphed into an administrative assistant position and eventually into an assistant code enforcement officer. She was tasked with [the duties of] the E-9-1-1 addressing officer, the deputy harbor master, the freedom of access to information officer and most recently, the personal property tax assessor.”

“She is leaving us to take a positionwith the Town of New Gloucester as their code enforcement officer,” Hawley said.

Matthews’ position will not remain vacant for any length of time because Hawley has hired town employee Paula Miller to fill it.

However, advertising for Miller’s position will not happen until after the preparations for Annual Town Meeting, which is slated this year for April 29.

“I have hired Paula Miller to step into Kate Matthews position,” Hawley said.

“Miller will be moving from her part-time administrative assistant role into Kate’s position. She will have all the same duties and responsibilities except for the assistant CEO,” he said.

The town manager said he’s too busy with everything that is required during the countdown to town meeting to review resumes or interview people.

“I will hire someone for Kate’s position after town meeting preparation. I don’t have time right now,” Hawley said.

The vacancy left by Miller being moved to Matthew job “will remain open until after town meeting prep work is completed, and it will then be advertised for hire,” he said.

“I have to get through March before I can hire a new assistant. It has been reclassified as a part time clerical position. It will be person for the front counter,” he said.
