Pauline B. Hunter, 93

Pauline Hunter

MADAWASKA — Pauline B. (Allen) Hunter, 93, passed away on Friday, May 28, 2021, at Ridgewood Estates in Madawaska.

She was born on June 20, 1927, in Gorham, the daughter of Frances (Thompson) and Anson Allen.

Pauline, always called Polly, loved the small-town life of Maine, spending many years in Harrison and attending local schools there. Harrison was where she met and married John A. “Jack” Hunter. Together, they owned and operated a dairy farm in North Fryeburg. On the farm, she raised three daughters, tended a huge vegetable garden, kept a tidy home, cared for the cattle, led a 4-H group, and baked the best cookies, especially molasses. Her seamstress talents were put to good use making draperies at Harbinger House in Sweden, and her affinity for animals led her to raise herd replacement dairy calves for Thurston Farms in North Fryeburg. Her retirement years were spent in Madawaska, where she kept beautiful flower gardens and quilted many family heirlooms.

Besides her parents, Polly was predeceased by her husband of 71 years, John A. Hunter; her daughter, Kathren H. “Kate” Albert; and her sister, Gwen Tarbell.

Polly is survived by daughters Christine Murphy of Nashville Plantation, and Heidi Lee of Laconia, N.H.; and many nieces and nephews. She was known as Nana to seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, whom she was very proud of.

A graveside gathering will be at a later date at the Harrison Village Cemetery.

For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Ridgewood Estates Activity Fund, 480 Ridgeview Ave., Madawaska, ME  04756.
