Vernon L. Moulton

Vernon Moulton

Vernon L. Moulton passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022.

He was born on Dec. 22, 1935, in Bridgton to Herbert and Rita Moulton, the youngest of six children. Vern was a 1954 graduate of Bridgton High School (BHS), who subsequently completed his studies at the University of Maine at Orono (UMO) in 1958. Despite where life took him, he was intrinsically tied to the Lake Region.

While at BHS, Vern met his first wife Phyllis Moulton (neé Holmes), who he maintained a special bond with, whether they were married or estranged. They had four children together over the course of two decades, all of whom remain a tight-knit family.

Upon graduating from UMO, he returned to Bridgton where he taught drivers’ education and English at BHS before joining the Maine Warden Service. As a warden, he was transferred from the Lake Region to the Portage area, where he knew the ins and outs of Maine’s big woods. In fact, anyone who was well acquainted with Vern spoke highly of his ability to traverse some of the most remote and pristine areas of the state.

Vern, a passionate outdoorsman and charismatic storyteller, had an unmatched zest for life. He was ornery in a way that while not loud, commanded the respect of all who knew him.

Vern is predeceased by his parents, five siblings, and his ex-wife Ronica “Ronnie” Goodwin.

He is survived by Phyllis Moulton (ex-wife); his children Kevin Moulton, Kim Piffath, Blaine Moulton and Wendy Moulton; his three stepdaughters, Renee, Becky, and Lisa; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held in the coming months. Should you want to join us in honoring Vern’s legacy, contact the family at moultonmemorial@gmail.com for details.
