W. Scott Kelman III, 71

W. Scott Kelman III, 71, of Bridgton died from renal failure Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at his home with his wife Darlene by his side and surrounded by so much love in his final days.

Born in Lowell, Mass., Oct. 21, 1948, son of Walter S. and Gabrielle (Duguay) Kelman II. The family moved to South Portland at Scott’s young age where he grew up and graduated from South Portland High School where he was active in golf and basketball. He earned a degree in pharmacy at Mass. College of Pharmacy in Boston.

He began his 20-year pharmacy career at Allen’s Pharmacy and later director of pharmacy at Northern Cumberland Memorial Hospital in Bridgton.

A turn of events led him down an altogether different career path working as a survey technician with the USDA, Saco District of the White Mountain National Forest in Conway, N.H., where he retired after 20 years. A job he loved going to every day.

A lifetime golfer who enjoyed many years playing in the MSGA, having an impressive record with a special foursome. His great golfing adventures in so many states with lifelong friends are too numerous to mention. How thrilled was he that Dee finally took up his favorite sport. They enjoyed many great rounds in New England, Florida and Arizona. He was a past member of Bridgton Highlands and Lake Kezar Country Clubs where he was active in twilight leagues.

An avid skier, fisherman and sports enthusiast he also enjoyed cribbage tournaments with Dee and friends, pool, basketball, horseshoes, cornhole and shuffleboard with a regulation court at his home. Scott loved competition but more importantly the comraderie of playing with friends.

A favorite pastime for many years was cruising Long and Sebago Lakes on Skyy’s the Limit. Always catching and not just fishing in Sebago Lake. Catching trout at his favorite Stevens Brook spots his last few weeks was a daily norm.

Thrilled to have purchased his dream car, a 1967 El Camino, he and Dee enjoyed many sweet rides. The Naples 4th of July parade was a fun summer highlight especially with Asja riding sidekick or tossing candy from the back.

After retiring, he loved spending Januarys in Cancun, Mexico, with travels to Virginia, D.C., South Carolina, Arizona and California, until wintering on Anastasia Island in St. Augustine, Fla. It was a wonderful place to connect with special cousins and friends to enjoy golf and all things warm.

Always the optimist, he dealt with a series of medical issues over the past few years but never lost his great sense of humor. He always did love telling a good joke.

The most important part of Scott’s life was his family whom he loved more than anything and cherished times together. Always supporting Asja in any sporting or school event meant the world to him. She truly was his shining light.

We’ll miss his hugs, positive attitude, warm loving nature, comedic style and voice of reason.

Scott is survived by his wife Darlene (Gillespie) Kelman, the love of his life whom he married on August 29, 1970, in South Portland; a son, Jason Kelman and fiance Meeghan Carrigan, granddaughter Asja of Cumberland; a sister, Sandy Forgione and husband Tony of Mesa Az.; brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law that he loved like they were his own siblings, Jim, Gary, Scott and Karen and their families; special cousins and a lifetime of close friends. He will be sorely missed by all lives he touched.

Darlene and Jason would like to thank all who have reached out with so much loving support, and Androscoggin Hospice for their assistance and compassion during his final days.

Cremation arrangements are in the care of Hall Funeral Home,165 Quaker Ridge Rd., Casco, where Darlene and Jason would love for tributes to be shared with them on Scott’s Tribute Wall at www.hallfuneralhome.net.
